Breeding llama and alpacas
Walter Mair has been breeding llamas and alpacas at his farm in Renon, South Tyrol, since 1996.
Our llama and alpaca breeding farm, “de Oro”, is one of the oldest and largest in Italy. It is also one of the most successful in Europe. Our herd of llamas and alpacas has the greatest genetic diversity in Europe and currently comprises 153 animals (llamas and alpacas). We were one of the first farms in Italy to be certified as tuberculosis-free under the 2016 EU regulation, and we continue to be tested and registered as such today.
Our goal is to breed animals that are correct, typical, attractive, sociable and athletic, with good character and fine, dense, shiny wool.
Our selected breeding animals include 24 stallions and 67 mares from a wide variety of bloodlines, which produce approximately 45–50 foals each year.
All foals from our llama and alpaca breeding program are given the breeding name 'de Oro'.
We deliver animals purchased from us directly to your home and organize all the necessary blood samples, examinations and documents.
All of our llamas and alpacas are registered with the Italian Association of Llama and Alpaca Breeders and Keepers, as well as with LAREU (Llama and Alpaca Registries Europe).
